Dear HVTT Forum subscriber, This month’s newsletter focuses on the theme of truck safety, specifically highlighting two recent truck safety developments in the Canadian context. As HVTT marks its 40th anniversary in 2026, it seems appropriate to reflect on this theme since it was one of the key objectives of the technical analysis conducted as part of the Canadian Vehicle Weights and Dimensions Study in 1986. Affected by ongoing tensions in the Middle East, diesel prices in China have risen by 10.5% since the start of 2026, reaching approximately US$1.19 per litre. In 2026, we celebrate 40 years since the first Heavy Vehicle Weights and Dimensions Symposium (HVWD1), held in Kelowna, Canada, in 1986, which laid the foundations for what would later become the HVTT Forum. Free circulation of all types of B-doubles on Argentine National Roads The Argentine Government has authorized free circulation for all types of B-double vehicle configurations on the entire National Road Network. Resolution 1196/2025, published August 19th, 2025, eliminates time restrictions and the requirement to request specific corridors, allowing all B-doubles up to 75-ton and 30.25 meters, 9 axles to travel on almost the entire National Road Network. Dear HVTT Forum subscribers, China’s Ministry of Transport Releases 2024 Transportation Industry Statistics Report in June 2025 In June 2025, China’s Ministry of Transport unveiled the 2024 Statistical Bulletin on the Development of the Transportation Industry. As of the end of 2024, China’s total operational highway vehicles reached 12.1224 million units, comprising 11.557 million freight vehicles (95.3%) and 565,400 passenger vehicles. The country operated 658,100 public buses and trolleybuses, with electric buses accounting for 74.1% (487,500 units)—a 13,600-unit increase from 2023—highlighting progress in promoting new energy public transit. In 2024, China handled 56.875 billion metric tons of freight volume, up 3.9% year-on-year, while freight turnover hit 25.4486 trillion ton-kilometers, a 5.7% YoY increase. China’s... Read More
